Privacy Policy
Effective October 7, 2026
The short version
Here, Again has no accounts, no servers, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking. We, the makers, never receive your letters, your location or anything else about you.
Your letters live on your phone. The only things that leave it are a single place-name lookup with Apple Maps when you seal a letter, and the letters you choose to send to someone.
Who is responsible
Keno Hänig. Email: hello@hereagain.link.
Because we collect no personal data, there is nothing for us to process on our side. This policy explains what the app does on your phone.
What stays on your phone
Your letters (text, up to three photos, a voice note, an optional title), where and when each was sealed, its place name, an optional “not before” date, the name you sign with, and any clue you add.
Letter contents are encrypted with AES-GCM before they are written to storage. The key is kept in the iOS Keychain. Letters therefore can't be read from the app's files without Here, Again.
Location
Location is used to seal a letter at the spot where you are, to show how far away your letters are, and to notice when you return.
If you allow location Always, iOS watches up to 20 nearby places for you, on your phone, and wakes the app when you arrive at one. With While Using, the app only checks while it's open.
Your location is never sent to us. It is not stored anywhere except as the position of each letter you seal.
Apple services
When you seal a letter, the coordinates of that spot are sent once to Apple Maps to look up a place name (for example “Frankfurt”). The optional map view loads its map from Apple. These requests are handled by Apple under Apple's Privacy Policy. Apple never receives what you wrote.
Notifications are created on your phone. No push service is used.
Microphone and photos
The microphone is used only while you record a voice note, and photos only when you pick them. Both are stored encrypted inside the letter.
Letters you send
When you seal a letter for someone, the app creates a .hereagain file. It contains the encrypted letter, the place and its coordinates, the dates, your signing name and your clue. Those details are readable in the file. The letter's contents are not.
You choose how to send it (AirDrop, Messages, WhatsApp, Mail or anything else), and that service's own privacy policy applies. The postcard image shows only the seal, the place, the date and the coordinates.
The encryption of shared files keeps casual readers out, but it is not built to resist a determined attacker. Please don't use Here, Again for secrets.
Backups
If you back up your iPhone, your letters and their key are included in that backup in encrypted form, so they move with you to a new iPhone. Here, Again has no backup of its own.
Keeping and deleting
Everything stays on your phone until you delete it: one letter at a time, all at once in Settings (“Delete everything”), or by deleting the app. Letters you've already sent stay with the people you sent them to.
Your rights
Under the GDPR and similar laws you have the right to access, correct and erase your data, and to complain to a data protection authority. Since we hold no data about you, you exercise these rights directly on your phone. You're always welcome to write to us at hello@hereagain.link.
Children
Here, Again collects no data from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will appear here with a new date. Effective October 7, 2026.
